In Evansville, the Someplace Else Nightclub and Bokeh Lounge are havens for drag performers hailing from the Southwest Indiana city and its rural communities along the Ohio River. The Starz Family, with their three generations of drag artists, carry the region’s legacy known only by locals.

Londyn Starz didn’t see herself being a drag mother at first. After all, she was only “adopted” by the family’s matriarch, Paris Starz, for just a few years before being approached by young drag enthusiasts Sofia, Mysteria and Sevyn, aching to wear their heels on the stage at Someplace Else. Years later, the queens’ camaraderie and stage presence cemented them as drag icons helping pave the way for aspiring drag performers in Southwest Indiana and Northwest Kentucky.
