Nate Swanson is an award-winning freelance photographer from Chicago's Western Suburbs and is a 2022 graduate of Ohio University with a BS in Visual Communication. Values instilled throughout his life largely inspired the stories he pursued, where broader issues on chosen families, food deserts and rural isolation were shared through individuals' selfless dedication to serving and connecting their communities.

His lifelong creative edge was introduced by his mother's artistic and close-knit extended family, all of whom continue to lean on each other in his hometown.

As a teenager, he simultaneously practiced street photography while working several jobs in the service industry that molded him into a fast-paced responder and careful listener. In 2017, he earned Eagle Scout in accompaniment from a project he led by helping organize and photograph a non-profit's annual event to rally against gun violence in Chicago's West Side.

Nate is a member of the National Press Photographers Association and NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists.
